As many of you know, I've been having problems with the volume of all Youtube videos when viewed on the site. They're ll too low and there doesn't seem to be a way to chnge this. I tried uninstalling Adobe Flash Player so that I could reinstall it and hopefully fix the problem but ith program is completely inaccessible. I've been listening to Youtube videos with Klango but there are times when it displays a message saying that I need to watch the video on Youtube. Does anyone know of a good alternative to Adobe's Flash Player and how can I manually uninstall said player?

I don't know about the player, but you're also dealing with Flash as a platform, and the given piece of flash written by whomever. Any player can't expose what isn't there, so if roles (what type of thing it is, e.g. button slider or whatever), names, associations (what goes with what) aren't exposed, no player can magically do it for you. It's up to the provider of the flash. Flash can be done right, but often isn't. That has more to do with sloppy coding than anything else.

What opperating system are you using,? With the exception of XP and earlier OS you can turn down the volume of your web browser in the volume control area and this can hopefully solve your problem.

True but I don't mean that the videos etc. aren't accessible. I men tht the flash player from Adobe has become totally inaccessible. When I try to updte or to uninstall it, it gives me "q" and "i" buttons. Q quits the program, of course, but i neither installs nor uninstalls. It says something like "install flsh plyer" after I hit i but nothing ever happens. I tried hitting the empty space, that I guessed was buttons, in between the q and i and got nothing. As for the videos on Youtube, I have no clue what's going on there. The volume just went down one day and never came back. But they play nicely on Klango.

Jaws 12 will fix some of your flash player issues, but as said before it's sloppy coding. Flash player actually leaves cookies on your machine, and YouTube is one of them. You can remove them on Adobes web site that way the cookie won't have the information that tells it to lower your volume. If you are using IE or FirFox reset them as if they are new and that might help you as an accessible way to fix YouTube. I haven't tried to use the flash cookie removal with Jaws 12, but with 11 and before you'll need sighted help. To uninstall flash player then reinstall it you must go to add and remove programs. After that look in your program files and make sure it is also removed, then reinstall it and try again. You can also use Real Player and make that your default player for playing videos. It's pretty much accessible with Jaws. Just go to www.realplayer.com and download it.

The latest version of Real Player is SP. Their is a help file in Jaws that gives you the keystrokes for it use. Hope this helps.

I actually have Real Player 8 instealled and occasionally use it. It's very accessible, though I'm not sure if it will work with flash. I'm currently using NVDA so the JFW advice won't really help me much unless I'm just using the demo to do few things. I actually tried to uninstall Flash Player, s I said, and the whole uninstallation program was inaccessible, and that was with NVDA and with JFW! But I will try the cookie idea, first from Firefox and then from the site. It looks like this software is getting more and more ridiculous and I might go with Real Player after all, so long as it's fully accessible.

Well, I just used Clean UP! (yes, the exclimation mark is part of the title) to delete all the unnecessary temporary files, cookies and so forth from my computer and cleared awy 2.9gb of space! I always tell people to use this program and can't believe I haven't used it on this lptop before tonight. But of course, Flsh Player is being the same piece of shit as ever. So now I have to try their site. I hear that they have an uninstaller but something tells me tht's not accessible either.

It's worth noting that I have never, until recently, had problem with this player. I just installed it and forgot it was even there.

I use NVDA myself and it handels flash a little differently to the way jaws does.

on the you tube site you need to hit the letter O while a video is playing.

It should say something like embedded object clickable.

after that you hit enter or the space bar to interact with the flash element.

once you're interacting with the particular flash element, you press the NVDA modifier plus the spacebar, you'll hear a kind of beep.

Now just use the up and down arrows to adjust the volume control.

Note, the volume control that I just described only seems to work with you tube.

The left and right arrows will rewind and fast forward through the video.

They seem to work on most flash videos that I've come across.

To get back to the page, press the modifier plus space, followed by modifier plus control plus space.

I know this sounds like a lot, but it really does work.

I brows you tube a lot using NVDA.

Wow! Thanks. I didn't know any of that was even possible. I'll definitely try it and let you know what happens.

Your cleanup program still didn't get the flash cookies though. You'll have to use a special utility for it, or use Adobes site to do it. You can have it set so they don't save, so you won't have any more issues with it.

Is clean up like Ccleaner?

I often find after browsing YouTube running Ccleaner cleans a lot of the junk left behind from that site, along with anything else that it might happen to come across.

I'm glad my instructions were helpful.

How do I get it to not save these cookies and what utility do I need to use to clean them?

Go to Adobe.com and type in flash cookies. You'll find the page for the settings.
